In June, the government presented its mineral strategy, with the aim of creating the world's most sustainable mineral industry in Norway.

The topic of minerals is hot and "impossible": The Economist reports a multiple-fold increase in demand for critical minerals in the coming decades - a scale that has no parallel in industrial history. And where are the resources to be obtained? The dilemma - and the opportunities - also face Norway. How should we ensure that we operate more sustainably and contribute to the necessary resources for Norway, Europe and the world?

All estimates show a tremendous growth in demand for minerals and metals for the green shift. Norway is in a unique position in terms of both geology, technology and framework to drive forward responsible metal and mineral extraction for the transformation process that is needed.
At the same time, domestic opposition to mining on land and water is strong. The Nimby principle (Not in my backyard) stands strong, at the same time that Norwegians are big consumers of technology and other goods that require far more minerals and metals to be extracted than today. We want a green shift – but can we do it without intervention?
What role can recycling and changed consumption patterns play?

In this panel discussion, you will meet, among others, Kurt Aasly, who heads the NTNU Raw Material Forum, and a wide selection of experts who shed light on the challenges and opportunities related to mineral extraction - before, now and in the future"

In this panel discussion, you will meet, among others, Kurt Aasly, who heads the NTNU Raw Material Forum, and a wide selection of experts including Mats Ingulstad, Siri Granum Carson, Gabriella Tranelli, Henrik Schielleruo and student Solveig Berg Larsen, who shed light on the challenges and opportunities associated with mineral extraction - before, now and in the future"
Per.A.D Jynge & Steinar Ellefsmo facilitates the session.

Musician and composer Frode Thorjussen sets the tone....

What are the opportunities for Norway to take a leading position in the supply of minerals and metals for the green shift - and what are the obstacles?
What are the alternatives to Norway taking this role?
What role can research play in ensuring that interventions are minimized?
